(The South Bay's earliest and most prominent beach bar, swill house and pool hall.)Our origianl location at 2nd St and PCH in Hermosa was the catalyst for our fun loving attitude. The place was originally a bank in 1926. We had a giant safe just inside the door. In 1929, due to the collapse of the stock market the bank closed.A theater troupe rented it for a while. Their original murals were still on the walls celebrating the bathing suites and morals of the day. We never painted over them. After the theater troupe the corner became a restaurant to 1947. Then it became dormant again. From 1950 all the way through 1996 we just sold Bud and a few other beers. Swinging doors graced the front like an old West bar for most of its life span. Bikers, movie stars, pool sharks, and war heroes sat side by side along the bar's mammoth spread. People would go on vacations and return with road posts, license plates, street signs, animal heads, car parts, - whatever - donating it to the walls for a free beer. The collection grew and grew until the collection got so thick you couldn't make out some of the things under the earlier layers. A giant train whistle - among many other horns and whistles- blasted through the air. Saw dust covered the floors. Every year Christmas summoned a monstrous size decorated tree. The place was packed non-stop. When we lost our lease in 2006 we stayed on month-to-month until the property owner found a new tenant to take our place. October 2007 we moved down the road to keep the good times going. Paulie's Upper Deck Sports Bar was a good match for our senses and clientele. The two locations merged. A lot of the wall decorations have made the move with us. And while we're still settling in the mood has already been set and we're off and running. Flat screen televisions everywhere and live music on the weekends. With us we brought our original bar top with a twenty foot snake skin just beneath the surface. The saw dust may be gone from the floor but the history is still in our hearts.
